Sunday, November 17 -Christmas Ceilidh at the St. John’s Anglican Church at 7:00 p.m. Performers are Frank Whitty, Katlin Doyle & Johnny Gallant, Selwin MacAssey & Joanne Gass and The Group Spoke For. Admission is $10; children 12& under -free.
*On Mondays from 1-3 p.m. (upstairs) Sewing and Craft Work Bee Sessions. Sewing machines are available but please bring whatever you are working on, or work on the community quilt project. A beautiful section of the quilt has been completed by Alida Callaghan and we hope to have it hanging at the hall soon! Thanks Alida!
Fitness for 50+ Classes are held on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 am- 10:00 am. The focus of the class is balance and flexibility. Instructor Angelie Carter. Cost -$3. There will be no class on Friday, Dec 6; and classes end for Christmas on Monday, Dec 16. Classes are cancelled if local schools are cancelled or delayed for weather reasons.
Coffee -Get to know your neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats!
Line Dancing – Mondays from 1:30-3:00 with Margot Postma. Cost $4 drop-in.
** Singing – Drop in to sing on Tuesday afternoons at 1:15 p.m. They will soon be breaking out the Christmas songs!
Chair yoga – Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Cost $4 with Angelie Carter. Yoga mats provided if needed. Last class before Christmas break is Dec 11. Classes are cancelled if local schools are cancelled or delayed for weather reasons.
North Milton Women’s Institute invites local ladies to their monthly meeting – Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 pm at the Hall.
Saturday, November 23 – A Coles Book event is scheduled for the hall in the afternoon.
The annual Christmas Craft Fair is Saturday. Nov. 30. from 9-2:30. Admission $2-adults. 12 & under -free. The vendor space is fully booked. Details on some of the items to admire and purchase are on the Facebook event page

**Friday, December 13 -Afternoon (1:30 p.m.) Christmas Art Party -Cost $20 RSVP by Tuesday. Dec 10. Everyone paints the same picture – and we are taking feedback for the next day or two on the Milton Community Hall Facebook page as to which painting the most people prefer.
*Wednesday, December 18 – 9:00 a.m. Christmas Baking Bee. RSVP by Monday, Dec 16. Come bake together – some of the goodies will be distributed to seniors in the area, and bakers can also take home some tasty treats. If you have a recipe that is a Christmas treat that is fairly easy to make and fool-proof, we would love recipe suggestions!
Sunday, December 15 – The Open Bible Baptist Church invites community members to their church Christmas Pageant at 6:30 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall. The church meets regularly at the hall on Sunday mornings and evenings and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Friday – Dec 20 – The hall has just been booked for a Christmas Concert – watch for details!
Community Play – The Miltonvale Community Players have set the date for the play this year – Thurs-Sat, Feb 13-15, 2020. If you would like to be involved (publicity, ticket sales, costumes, canteen… ) contact miltoncommunityplayers@gmail.com.
Municipal Council meetings are the 3rd Wednesday each month at 7:30 – so they meet this week on November 20, on the 2nd floor at the Milton Hall, and will be meeting at 7:00 to review the EMO Plan. Planning Board usually meets the 2nd Wed. at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. There may not be a meeting in December, so please check in advance.
Much appreciation is extended to residents and friends of the hall/community who have been volunteering their time and talents lately – to James Marjerrison, who recently led a 10 week ukulele session – lots of fun!; to Joyce Blackett who help lead a biscuit making workshop this week (in case you notice more biscuits being made in the area!), to Nancy Hooper who is in the midst of a basic drawing course – there are some talented artists in the area, and to Jill Garson who got the Tuesday choral singing group started, and to those who helped with the music, especially Tony Reddin, which his trusty guitar!
We have also had some offers and inquiries to share. Please let me know if any of the following might be of interest:
Helen Garson has offered to lead a recorder class, if there is interest in learning to play.
Would there be interest in having an informal drop in group for parents of young children?
Would there be interest in an evening drop in craft/knit/sew night?
Let us know if you have any suggestions for the municipality or the hall. Council will be reviewing its Capital Investment Plan over the next few months as it needs to be revised, and there is approximately $170,000 in Gas Tax funds that will be received in the next 4.5 years to be reallocated.
**Information on child bursaries (up to $75/year/child for extracurricular sports/culture lessons/classes/activities) and green initiative rebates (low flow replacement toilets, HE washers, low flow showerheads), the new bylaws and more are also on the new Council website.
***EMERGENCY MEASURES – As we enter the season of wintery weather, please be sure to be prepared for emergencies. Individuals and families are expected to be able to look after themselves for 72 hours. The hall is equipped with a generator and when possible during a power outage can be open for a warming shelter. Council is meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nov 20 on the 2nd floor at the Milton Hall to review and update its emergency plan. Residents are welcome to attend, If you would be interested in helping with the Miltonvale Park EMO committee, please let the Council office know. We are hoping to distribute a community survey soon to update our records on who might be a resource in the event of an emergency and those folks who may require assistance. Items for an emergency kit may be a practical idea for a Christmas gift.
