NOTICE TO ELECTORS FOR COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
PURSUANT TO SECTION 42 OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT ACT, AND SUBSECTION 25(1) OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION REGULATIONS
Public notice is hereby given to the electors of the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park that a Municipal Election will be held on November 2, 2026, to elect the Mayor and six Councillors for Miltonvale Park for the term of office terminating on the 6th day of December 2030.
The nomination period for the council positions noted above opens on Wednesday, October 7, and closes at 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, October 16, 2026.
Nominations can be received at the election office, at Milton Community Hall, 7 New Glasgow Rd. Rte. 224, North Milton by the Municipal Electoral Officer (MEO) or Returning Officer at the following times, during Municipal Office Hours, on or after October 7.
- Mondays 10-5 (Closed Thanksgiving)
- Tuesdays 1-6:30
- Wednesdays 9-5
- Fridays 10 a.m. -12 p.m., except Friday, October 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Candidates are responsible for confirming their eligibility to be nominated prior to submitting their nomination form.
For voters, the deadline for correcting elector information shall be no later than 11:59 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Miltonvale Park has an Elections Bylaw, which outlines information about the election. The Province has a webpage with a lot of information about municipal elections, and a page specifically for candidates.
The nomination papers can be picked up at the Elections Office at the Milton Community Hall, 7 New Glasgow Road, Rte 224 North Milton, during office hours or can be found online. There is no fee to file nomination papers in Miltonvale Park.
Please be aware that every candidate must file a Candidate Contributions Election Expenses Form within two months of the election, whether they are elected or not. These forms are also available online or at the Elections Office.

Notes for Potential Candidates in the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park
Thank you for considering putting your name forward for the Council of the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park.
The deadline for the nomination papers to be received at the Elections Office at the Milton Community Hall is Friday, October 16 at 2 p.m. Nomination papers must be received directly by one of the election officials the Municipal Electoral Officer, Shari MacDonald, Deputy MEO Lindsey Rhynes, or the Returning Officer Claire Matheson, at the Hall.
You can run for municipal office if you:
- Are a Canadian citizen
- Are at least 18 years of age or older
- Have been ordinarily a resident in the municipality for a period of at least six months before the election (Nov. 2, 2026)
If an election is required, the Advance Poll will be scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29 from 4-7 p.m. and the Election will take place from 9 a.m. -7 p.m. on Monday, November 2. If six nominations for councillors, and one for mayor are not received by Oct. 16 at 2 p.m., the nomination period will be extended for a week, for the applicable category. If exactly six nominations are received for councillors and one for mayor, the positions would be filled by acclamation.

Current councillors are reminded to use their personal emails (rather than Council emails) in campaigning.
The municipal Elections Bylaw is located on the municipal website, (miltonvalepark.com) under Bylaws and on the special Elections 2026 page, under the Municipal pages of the website.
Key things to be aware of are:
Eligible voters must be Canadian citizens, 18 or older, have lived in PEI for at least 6 months before November 2, 2026, and ordinarily a resident in the municipality on November 2, 2026.
Candidates may appoint an agent to act on their behalf. There is a form to fill out. There is also a form for withdrawing, and for reporting campaign contributions and expenses. All candidates must complete the campaign contributions and expense form and return to the MEO/CAO within two months of the election. The municipal Elections Bylaw notes limits for donations and spending. Candidates are entitled to receive a copy of the voters’ list (paper copy), which is in preliminary form until October 20, and then an official voters’ list will be available on October 21 from Returning Officer Claire Matheson. Please let me know if you would like to have a copy of either list, so they can be printed. A “Receipt of Sensitive Information” form must be signed when you pick up a copy. The lists must be returned to the Council Office after the election and can only be used for election purposes. The zoning map is on the municipal website and can be useful if you plan to do any in-person campaigning to determine the municipal boundaries.
Candidates should ensure their names appear on the Voters’ list. The office gets the list from Elections PEI, and voters have until 11:59 am on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to be added to the list by the municipal elections staff. People can also be added to the list on the voting days, if they have appropriate ID.
Electors must bring identification (ID) or documents with their name and address to the polls. Electors can bring one piece of government ID with their name and address OR two pieces of ID or documents with their name on both and address on at least one. Electors that can not prove their current address can bring two pieces of ID with their name and sign a declaration at the poll. More detailed information will be on miltonvalepark.com and at the election office and publicized before the voting days, but please remind residents that acceptable ID is needed when they come to vote. A voter can vote for up to six candidates for councillor at the polls and one mayor.
Candidates are required to submit a record of campaign expenses and any donations they may receive throughout the campaign. Candidates may not accept anonymous donations.
Candidates and their authorized agents (one per candidate) are permitted to be observers at the polls when they are open, and for the counting of the ballots.
The Elections Office Hours at the Milton Community Hall are Mondays, 10-5 (except closed on Thanksgiving) Tuesdays 1-6:30, Wednesdays 9-5 and Fridays 10-12, except it will be open 9-2 for October 16 (and the 23rd, if an extension to the nomination period is needed), at the Milton Community Hall. Looking ahead, the new Council will take office on December 7, 2026. The Federation of PEI Municipalities, FPEIM will host an orientation session and webinar series for all new and returning mayors, councillors, and CAOs. The in-person session is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, 9 am-4 pm, at the Murchison Centre in Charlottetown. The day will include lessons in leadership, emerging trends, and the council-CAO relationship, plus the chance to hear from Housing and Communities Minister Kent Dollar. Find the current agenda here.
