Council Committees and Meeting Schedule

Committees are where much of the work of the Council takes place. The committees are charged by the Mayor to review issues and make recommendations to the Council. Council makes its decisions at Council meetings, based upon committee recommendations. Committee and planning board meetings are generally open to the public, unless closed for reasons outlined in the Municipal Government Act, usually pertaining to legal, land or personnel matters.

Finance – This committee includes Rose Ramsay (Chair),  Spencer MacDonald (Vice Chair), Mayor Parker and the CAO (non-voting).  They are responsible for the preparation of the budget, the distribution of council approved funds, and the presentation of financial statements.

Planning – The Planning Board is responsible for the oversight of planning and development within the community.  The development officer, Mirko Terrazas, receives development and subdivision applications, and those which are straightforward and comply with the bylaws, can receive timely approval. Applications which may be complicated, or have issues, are reviewed by the Planning Board.  The Planning Board currently includes Planning Board Chair Paul Poole, Mayor Hal Parker (Vice Chair), Councillors Spencer MacDonald and Jamie Taylor, residents Zach Stephens and Bob Peake and the CAO (non-voting) and Development Officer. The Planning Board takes a lead role in any Official Plan and Bylaw reviews.

Environment and Community Living – This committee works integrally, on behalf of the Municipality, to best use all community resources to achieve sustainable development and enhance quality of life through improved environmental decision making, recommends policies and programs relating to environmental issues and community living activities, including supervision of the community park, its park shelter and the summer recreation program, liaising with Communities 13 Inc., and for developing policies around park use.  Councillor Jamie Taylor is chair, with Councillors Rose Ramsay (Vice Chair), Leo Doucette, Mayor Parker and the CAO (non-voting) as members.

The Personnel Committee is responsible for the human resource areas of Council, including employee evaluation and workplace policies, and is chaired by Andrew Frizzell and includes Jamie Taylor (Vice Chair), Councillor Leo Doucette, and Mayor Parker, and the CAO (non-voting).

The Emergency Measures Committee consists of Councillors Paul Poole (Chair), Leo Doucette (Vice Chair), Spencer MacDonald,  Mayor Parker, and the CAO (non-voting).  They will establish plans for the cooperation and mutual assistance between municipal governments in the event of a disaster or emergency and liaise with Provincial and Federal Emergency Measures Officials as required. They are responsible for the Emergency Management Bylaw.
