Committees are where much of the work of the Council takes place. The committees are charged by the Chair to review issues and make recommendations to the Council. Council makes its decisions at Council meetings, based upon committee recommendations. Committee and planning board meetings are generally open to the public, unless closed for reasons outlined in the Municipal Government Act, usually pertaining to legal, land or personnel matters.
Finance – This committee includes Phil Hooper as chair, Andrew Frizzell, Spencer MacDonald, Mayor Parker and the CAO. They are responsible for the preparation of the budget, the distribution of council approved funds, and the presentation of financial statements.
Planning – The Planning Board is responsible for the oversight of planning and development within the community. The development officer, Sandy Foy, receives development and subdivision applications, and those which are straightforward and comply with the bylaws, can receive timely approval. Applications which may be complicated, or have issues, are reviewed by the Planning Board. The Planning Board includes Mayor Hal Parker as Chair, Councillors Paul Poole and Lindsey Rhynes, residents Sheila Curtis, Betty Pryor and Steve Dickieson and the CAO. The Planning Board takes a lead role in any Official Plan and Bylaw reviews.
Environment and Community Living – This committee works integrally, on behalf of the Community, to best use all community resources to achieve sustainable development and enhance quality of life through improved environmental decision making, recommends policies and programs relating to environmental issues and community living activities, including supervision of the community park, its park shelter and the summer recreation program, liaising with Communities 13 Inc., and for developing policies around park use. Councillor Tamsyn Cosh-MacKenzie is chair, with Councillors Lindsey Rhynes, Spencer MacDonald and Mayor Parker as members.
The Personnel Committee is responsible for the human resource areas of Council, including employee evaluation and workplace policies, and is chaired by Phil Hooper and includes Tamsyn Cosh-MacKenzie, Lindsey Rhynes and Mayor Parker.
The Emergency Measures Committee consists of Councillors Paul Poole (chair), Spencer MacDonald, Andrew Frizzell and Mayor Parker. The will establish plans for the cooperation and mutual assistance between municipal governments in the event of a disaster or emergency and liaise with Provincial and Federal Emergency Measures Officials as required. They are responsible for the Emergency Management Bylaw.
