Community Events – September 28, 2021

The 50-50 Draw – The Milton Community Hall’s regular 50-50 draws happen twice every month. The first is on the 15th of every month and the second is drawn on the last day of every month. The next draw is September 30 (though it may not be announced until Oct.1)! Tickets are $3 or 2/$5. Drop in for tickets or e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com
Coffee Club happens on Mondays and Friday at10 a.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Feel free to drop in for coffee, tea, treats and conversation.

Mat Yoga continues on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am and is on a drop-in basis. Chair Yoga will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am and Thursdays at 9:30 (note time change) with Leone Curtis at the Milton Community Hall. Cost is $5. Yoga will be held on Sept 30, and people are asked to wear orange.
The Municipal Council Office will not be open for Truth and Reconciliation Day on Thursday, Sept. 30. We encourage residents to be reflective of Indigenous people and issues, use the day to learn more, and wear orange to show support.
Exercise classes begin again on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct 4. Cost is $5 and at this point the classes are full-but if residents would like to be on the waiting list for cancellations, please email admin@miltonvalepark.com. As well – it is expected that the Vax Pass requirements may allow additional people to attend.
Wheatley River 4-H Club – The Club will be meeting on Tuesday October 5 at 7:00 pm. at the Milton Community Hall. For information, contact Shari at 902-213-0597 or peishari@gmail.com.
The Sea Glass Art Workshop last week was a great success, and the municipality may hold another session for those residents who weren’t able to attend, as we have heard from several interested folks since. If you would like to attend one, please contact the Council office.
Recipes shared by Margaret Prouse and videos of the presentations on Summer Salads and French Cooking are available on the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park Facebook Page. Send the Council office an email if you would like the recipes emailed to you.
Rag Rug Making – Monday, October 4th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Come learn to make rag rugs and hot pads with Della Turner Wood at the Milton Community Hall. Spaces are very limited, but we may be able to fit in a couple of Miltonvale folks ages 55+ if residents are interested. Contact 902-566-3154 or miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com to register. People should bring scissors, 4 larger sized safety pins and fabric (such as an old bed sheet or old blue jeans), if possible. If anyone would like to donate old bedsheets or old jeans – please let us know.
Birding/Bird photography –  The municipality is also working on hosting a birding/bird photography workshop in October. Dates and details to be announced as soon as they are confirmed with the presenter.
North Milton Women’s Institute– The North Milton WI still welcomes new members (you don’t have to live in North Milton!). Due to Thanksgiving, the next meeting will be the THIRD Monday in October -the 18th at 7:00 pm at the Milton Community Hall.
Tai Chi Classes– Fall/Winter – The hall is planning to arrange a series of Tai Chi classes for the fall and winter months. No details are available yet.
Hip Hop – There was not enough interest to move ahead with Hip Hop classes. Thanks to all who expressed interest and to Lindsey Rhynes who spent a lot of time trying to make them happen.
Community Yard Sale -The Milton Community Hall is planning a yard (with some crafts) sale on Saturday, October 16 from 8a.m. -12 noon. To rent a 6 ft table for $15, contact the hall at miltoncommunityhall@gmail.comor 902-566-3154. Set up will be 6:30-8:30 on Friday, Oct 15 and 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
Concert: Sunday, October 17th, 7:30pm. Le Tour de mon jardin: Songs and stories from my Francophone roots with Michel Lalonde is an evening concert at the Milton Community Hall celebrating English and French songs and stories. Originallyfrom Ontario, Michel Lalonde has been a part of the Canadian music scene for decades. He was a founding member of the acclaimed Quebec-based folk rock Garolou who won a Felix award as Folk group of the year and a gold record for their debut recording. He has released three solo albums Délit de suite in1987, L’Amour fou in 2011 and Comme un engin in 2019. He has also recorded four albums with Saskatchewan based La Raquette à claquettes whose string-band sound has garnered them both a WCMA and an ECMA award. The next municipal Council Meeting is planned for Wednesday, October 20 at7:30pm at the Milton Community Hall. Space is limited, and pre-registration is necessary. (admin@miltonvalepark.comor 902-368-3090). The new Official Plan received approval at the September meeting and the new Development Bylaws received first reading and approval at the same meeting. The Bylaws will receive second reading and approval at the October meeting. Both documents do not come into effect until they have received approval from the Minister of Agriculture and Land. Municipal Halloween Drive Through event – Reserve Saturday afternoon, October 30 for a Halloween event for the children of Miltonvale Park at the Milton Community Hall. More details and registration information to follow.
Arts and Crafts – The municipality, in conjunction with Lorraine Quinn, is hoping to host a series of arts/craft/sewing afternoons. Days are not chosen as of yet, but it will likely be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays in October. Space is limited to six people and individuals would be asked to commit to a series of 4-6 afternoons. Contact– 902-368-3090 or admin@miltonvalepark.com
The Young at Heart Musical Theatre Group was funded for a New Horizon for Seniors grant to do a storytelling project in three locations across PEI (about four-six sessions each). They are planning an introductory gathering at the Milton Community Hall on Saturday, October 23rd at 2:00pm. If you are interested, register with the hall. Painting – The municipality is planning painting classes with Julia Purcell for six Tuesday afternoons, beginning November 9th, 2021. $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Contact the Council office to sign up.
Seniors Games Nights/Afternoons will also be planned for the fall and winter months. Suggestions are welcome for preferred days or evenings (or specific games/activities -eg board games, cribbage, crokinole, cards, bingo) to the Council Office.
Story Telling – The hall is looking for seniors to share stories of their life experiences on the Island, history, gardening, travel and many other topics, in a series throughout the fall and winter months. There will be a presentation for seniors on “Planning Ahead” with a presenter from Community Legal Information on Wednesday, December 1 at 10 a.m. To register, contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.comor 902-566-3154.
*The Year of Summer and the Year of France programs are funded by the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
The municipality received seniors funding to purchase six pairs of snowshoes and will be looking to start a snowshoeing club when winter hits, and will have the snowshoes available for lending to residents.

The PEI Vax Pass will most likely apply at the Milton Community Hall and for the activities that take place at the hall. Reminders:
There are still some food bank type items at the Milton Hall in the entry for anyone who is in need.
There are still several Samsung tablets available at the hall for Miltonvale Park Seniors to borrow.

If you are signing up your children for fall activities, remember the child bursary program which provides reimbursement of up to $75/child/year (April 1-March 31) for extra curricular arts/cultural/sports activities or lessons. https://miltonvalepark.com/for-residents/rebates-forms/

There are also forms on this page for rebates for low flow washers, showerheads and low-flow toilets that are replacing 13L models.
The Development Officer is in the Council Office at the Milton Community Hall on Wednesdays from9-2 (unless he is out visiting sites in the municipality).
A new Biciborne bicycle repair station has been installed at the Confederation Trail by the North York River Road. If your bicycle needs air in the tires or other simple repairs, check it out!
Office hours are closing 10 minutes early on Tue. Sept 28 at 6:20 so the CAO can attend a meeting at 6:30. Sorry for any inconvenience. (Office hours are Tuesdays 4:30-6:30 and Wednesdays 9-11 a.m. plus at least 20 other hours by chance or appointment)
