Week 2 results are in for our walk to Miltonvale, Kansas and we are making some serious progress!! Last week we made it from the Milton Community Hall to Fredericton, New Brunswick. This week we saw a significant increase in progress. Going from accumulating 285 km in week one to 857 km in week two! (1,071,671 steps) Great job everyone! We have crossed the border into the United States, and we are currently on the I-95 in Exeter, Rhode Island. Exeter was formed in 1742. They have a population of 6,425. Some cool attractions in the area are the Yawgoo Valley Ski Area and Water Park, the Pachaug State Forest Headquarters, and the Tomaquag Museum. In the late 1800’s, it was believed that Exeter had a vampire problem, it was even considered the vampire capital of the United States. Linked is an interesting vampire story from the town. https://newengland.com/…/vampire-mercy-brown-rhode-island/

Friday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. -Janet McGarry Concert at Milton Community Hall
Come out and join us for a great evening of music, featuring a unique selection of songs from the early days of country and old-time music set in an acoustic style that is truly a unique experience. We offer a variety of warm-hearted songs and talk a little about the music we play. The sounds of gospel, old time country, and bluegrass music will ring on the old five string banjo, mandolin, flat-top guitar, doghouse bass and fiddle.
Janet McGarry is an acclaimed female vocalist, whose song catalogue now includes over 150 song titles over several cd’s, collaborations and special appearances highlighting a near 20 year recording career, including “Wildwood Rose” which captured album of the year and her band Wildwood garnered gospel performance of the year three years running at the Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Awards. Janet & Serge will be joined on stage with Wildwood band mates Denise MacLeod on fiddle, Gail Mullen on bass and vocals and Blake Crockett on guitar.
The hall is located at 7A New Glasgow Road, Route 224, in Milton, and is wheelchair accessible. A canteen service is available. Admission is $20.00 at the door or by e-transfer to [email protected]. For more information, please contact the hall at 902-566-3154 or by e-mail at [email protected].
