Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. Active Transportation Plan – Come learn about recommendations in the Miltonvale Park Active Transportation Plan and give your input. The plan is ambitious, so the municipality will need to choose what can be done. Check out the draft plan online.
Comments we heard at the Saturday meeting on Nov. 30 included –
1. The desire to have parking where the trail connects to the roads, Lower Malpeque Rd, Loyalist Road).
2. E-bikes are growing in popularity – can they share trails with walkers? Need to slow down by walkers, perhaps consider speed limits, use bells to let folks know they are coming, having “sides of the road” for the trails.
3. CAWG PEI maintains some of the current trails for their own use to reach waterways. Some cross private land, and others may need to be upgraded if the public were to use them.
4. If there was going to be a boat slip installed near the park on the former community pasture land, is the water in the area consistently deep enough to support watercraft?
5. The trails are costed using crusher dust at about $70/m -would wood chips or ground be adequate?
6. Some of the rest stops could be made more pleasant with washroom facilities and the addition of a mosquito magnet.
7. The Parker Cross Road is relatively close to the ATV trails in Ebenezer. It is just outside the boundary of Miltonvale Park — but if there is ever amalgamation, we may end up in the same municipality! It is a lovely road to walk – it is not plowed in the winter, and holds snow late into the spring (and also has a couple of wetter areas slow to dry after wet weather -which can get motorists stuck… ask us how we know!)
8. Musical playground equipment would be a lovely addition to a park or rest area (like the Swirl at the Miltonvale Community Park).
9. We also need to check in with the PEI AT Plan to see where we fit in!
10. We love the idea of a roundabout at Rte. 2 and the Lower Malpeque Road.
What would help you use more active transportation methods (walking, cycling, snowshoeing, skiing, paddling…) to get from one place to another??
