Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall Happenings – March 19, 2023

Coffee Club – Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. Admission by donation of coin or sweets.

50/50 – The 15th & end of every month. Drop in or E-transfer [email protected] to buy tickets $3 each or 2/$5. Congratulations to Pauline Smith who won $120 on the March 15th draw!

Yoga –Tuesdays – Mat at 9:00 a.m. and Chair Yoga at 10:30. $6 for Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for non-residents.

Exercise classes on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. Cost -$5. No classes from March 27 -April 7 (inclusive). There will be class on Easter Monday).

TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) meet at the hall Tuesday evenings at 6:30. Contact Joyce at 902-368-2055.

FREE Volunteer – Income Taxes  Volunteer Don MacDonald CPA,CGA will come to the hall to compute and file simple taxes for people of a modest income when there are several appointments booked for a particular time frame. Please contact [email protected] or 902-368-3090 to arrange an appointment.

***Computer Classes – Mondays, March 20 & 27 at 7 pm with Andy Gallant. RSVP to. [email protected] or 902-566-3154. March 20 Understanding how computers work – and what exactly is the “Cloud”? –  a “How Stuff Works” course. March 27-Basic photo editing. Backing up your computer/smartphone. (Tell us if you use Apple or Android devices).

*Literary Lunch – Wednesday March 22 at 12 noon. Come check out our selection of Canadian books. Bring along a book to recommend to others who enjoy reading. Register at [email protected] by Monday noon, March 20. Free for Miltonvale Park residents 55+ and by donation for others. We will be unveiling a collection of new and used books to borrow that are connected to Nova Scotia and the Yukon, as well as others with a Canadian connection.

NEW DATE! *Moonlight Snowshoeing – RESCHEDULED to Saturday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. (weather permitting) Register at [email protected] or 902-368-3090. Trip will be about 45 minutes each way. Snacks included!

*Maple Syrup – Monday, March 27 at 11:00 am. Come learn about maple syrup from David Hooper and enjoy a pancake lunch. RSVP to [email protected] or 902-368-3090 by Thursday, March 23. Free for Miltonvale Park residents 55+ and by donation for others.

NEW! ***Seniors’ Financial Safety Lunch and Learn with Doug Geldert from the Provincial Credit Union Tuesday, March 28 -12 noon, Free for Miltonvale Park Residents 55+ and by donation for others. Insomnia and Sleep Problems Wednesday, March 29 at 10 a.m.– Speaker from Murphy’s Pharmacy. RSVP to [email protected] or 902-566-3154.

Song Portraits Concert – Friday, March 31. Song Portraits is a Radiant Rural Halls project by Corbin Murdoch that is inspired by the individuals that contribute to the vibrancy and vitality of Milton Community Hall. Portrait Subjects: John Hooper, Joy MacIntyre, Ken Williams, Rosemarie Ramsay, Joyce Blackett and Trilby Jeeves have met with the songwriter who then wrote a song about each of them, which each person will perform with the band. . Song Portraits Band: Alicia Toner, Carlie Howell (Musical Director), Josh Langille, and Mike Ross Register HERE for your FREE ticket!

 NEW! Growing up in Newfoundland – Some Traditions and Sayings – Wednesday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. Join Betty Pryor to learn about Newfoundland, as part of the Year of Canada Project, funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

 NEW! Are you interested in Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating? The lady who led last year’s egg decorating session is willing to lead another session – contact the Council Office if might be interested -and if there are enough folks, we can arrange a date.

 Reminders – the hall has KN95 masks, COVID rapid tests, books and puzzles, and snowshoes to loan. The municipality has rebates for HE washers, low flow showerheads, low-flow toilets that are replace older models that are 13L or more, and bursaries of $75/child/year for extra-curricular activities, e.g. arts and culture classes, registration for 4-H, or other young organizations, or sports. https://miltonvalepark.com/for-residents/rebates-forms/ (REBATE Deadline is March 30, 2023)
