Upcoming Events – October 25 – Halloween Details!

Community Events- Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall

 A Vax Pass is required to attend events at the hall. It is not required to visit the Council office, the washrooms, the food cupboard, for worship services, or for those under 12.

 The 50-50 Draw – The Milton Community Hall’s regular 50-50 draws happen twice every month. The first is on the 15th of every month and the second is drawn on the last day of every month. The next draw is Sunday, Oct 31. Tickets are $3 or 2/$5. Drop in for tickets or e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. Congratulations to Colin Dickie who won the Oct 15 draw of $82.50. If you would like to support the hall in a hassle-free way -you can e-transfer (or drop in with) money -e.g. $20 and ask that the hall look after buying you 2 tickets for each of the next four draws (two months!).

Coffee Club happens on Mondays and Friday at 10 a.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Feel free to drop in for coffee, tea, treats and conversation.

 Mat Yoga continues on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am and is on a drop-in basis.

Chair Yoga will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am and Thursdays at 9:30 with Leone Curtis at the Milton Community Hall. Cost is $5. Chair yoga will now require pre-registration. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UK-4nQj-3aujCDntE1K9uj7XOXzQZEOE6ocUCqW2rjI/edit?usp=sharing

Exercise classes are held with Michele Gallant on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 and there are one or two spaces in the classes. Please email admin@miltonvalepark.com. We can also make arrangements for people to attend via zoom – so if that is of interest, please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com.

Municipal Halloween Drive Thru event – This Saturday afternoon (2-4 p.m.), October 30 for a Halloween Drive Thru for the children of Miltonvale Park at the Milton Community Hall. Please register HERE. The municipality just received many books from First Book Canada and will be giving out books at Halloween: There is No Dog, Legends, Icons and Rebels (Music that Changed the World), Chronicles of Avonlea, Anne of Ingleside, Emily Climbs, My Journey  with the Stars, Paul the Puck (Ottawa Senators), and a Grade 4 workbook. The municipality is also buying some local pumpkins that residents can pick up and carve or decorate and return (temporarily) to the hall to be used for decorations during the drive thru Saturday afternoon. There will be a random draw for a prize from those who return a decorated pumpkin by noon on Saturday. Please let me know if you are coming for a pumpkin so we can ensure supply meets demand.

French Cooking – Crepes and Bechamel Sauce – with Margaret Prouse – Wednesday, November 3 at 1:30 p.m. Space is limited. Free for Miltonvale Residents aged 55+ and by donation for others. Pre-register at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090. *Year of France.  There is another cooking event scheduled for Wed. Nov 17 at 1:30. Details to follow.

Painting – Painting Fun with Acrylic, Gesso and Ink. Create  painted images that are  decorative and  could be part of your home  decor or seasonal display. Participants will need to bring a  sketchbook, backboard, pencil, compass, scissors, scrap paper, AND a liner brush. The classes with Julia Purcell will take place six Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-4 p.m., beginning November 9th, 2021. $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Contact the Council office to sign up.

The Milton Community Hall Christmas Craft Fair is going to be held on Saturday, November 13 from 9-3 p.m. Admission is $3 and includes door prize tickets.  Check the Facebook page for details. The fair is now filled for vendors. If anyone would like to volunteer at the Craft Fair, please contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.

Seniors Games Nights/Afternoons will also be planned for the fall and winter months. Suggestions are welcome for preferred days or evenings (or specific games/activities) to the Council Office.

The hall is also planning to host another fundraising bingo in January and is still planning to organize Tai Chi. Council is still waiting to hear from the bird photography presenter on a suitable date. Council also received funding to purchase six pairs of snowshoes and hopes to organize some snow shoe outings over the winter.

Story Telling – The hall is looking for seniors to share stories of their life experiences on the Island, history, gardening, travel, and many other topics, in a series throughout the fall and winter months. If you would like to tell some tales or suggest someone, please contact the hall at 902-566-3154 or miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.

There will be a presentation for seniors on “Planning Ahead” with a presenter from Community Legal Information on Wednesday, December 1 at 10 a.m. To register, contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com or 902-566-3154.

*The Year of Summer and the Year of France programs are funded by the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
