The Municipality has six pairs of adult snowshoes (and poles) available for residents to borrow – There are 3 pairs of 25” (120-200 lbs) and 3 pairs of 30” (170-250 lbs) snowshoes. Contact the council office (902-368-3090 or [email protected]) to arrange to borrow a pair for a day or two. These were funded by the PEI Seniors Secretariat, so priority is for people who are 55+. The hall has crokinole, cribbage boards, books (and sometimes puzzles), and ukuleles that can also be lent out to Miltonvale Park residents to help pass the time this winter. Call or email the hall to arrange a time to pick items up (though you can pop in anytime the hall is open to catch books -although it is best to avoid the 20 minutes before any event starts). For your convenience, the hall calendar is online https://miltoncommunityhall.ca/index.php?id=calendar
The annual meeting for the Milton Community Hall will be rescheduled for mid-late February. Online access will also be available. All adult residents of Miltonvale Park are members Milton Community Hall, Inc. The meeting will include reports, financial reports, voting on constitutional changes, and elections for board members. To learn more about serving on the board or to RSVP for the meeting contact [email protected] or 902-566-3154. Information for the meeting will be available here .
The Milton Community Hall is planning to reopen for some activities and rentals beginning Monday, January 31. The Council Office will remain open, but people are asked to call or email rather than visiting the office, if possible. Contact the Council office – [email protected] or 902-368-3090 for information on any of the above items.
The Milton Community Hall has been approved to participate in a Red Cross “Stop the Spread” rapid screening test program but has not yet received the test kits. The tests are expected to be available for participants/volunteers at events and activities at the hall. The Red Cross requires that they be used at the hall for people who are 18+, have no symptoms and have not been identified as close contacts. People would swab their own noses and put the swab into a small plastic tube, then return them to a hall volunteer for the rest of the testing process. The program requires that the hall report the numbers of tests and positive and negative results (no names) to Red Cross regularly and they have given us a waiver form for people to consent to report data to the Canadian Red Cross and to ensure they have consent to use the data to fulfill its obligations to Health Canada. There is also a video (no sound) that shows the testing procedure. The rapid tests should help to give everyone a bit more comfort attending events/activities, although it may require people to come approximately 20 minutes early. The tests are not mandatory, but given the high transmissibility of Omicron, we hope being able to be tested will help to keep everyone safer. It will allow those who may be contagious to learn that before symptoms appear, so people can reduce the chances of infecting others. Anyone who tests a presumptive positive is asked to be tested at the Provincial PCR testing site to confirm results.
If anyone might be interested in volunteering to assist with the testing and record keeping during the half hour (approximately) before events, please contact the hall at 902-566-3154. Training and PPE will be provided.
Also – the Municipality is updating its Emergency Management Plan -and would like to include the names and phone numbers of residents who might be willing to assist in an emergency situation (if available). If you have specialized equipment or skills that could be helpful in an emergency -such as snowmobiles, ATV, medical training, fluency in other languages, portable generator… please let the Council office know. As well, if anyone is interested in being on the Emergency management committee, please let me know.
The hall does have a generator and can be used as an Emergency Warming Center after storms if there are widespread power outages (once roads are safe for travelling). To check if it is open before you head out, you can call the hall (902-566-3154) or check the Milton Community Hall or Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park Facebook pages, or email the hall – [email protected] or council [email protected]. In the event of an emergency, and there is no one at the hall, CAO Shari MacDonald can be reached at 902-213-0597.
Reminder, vax passes are required for all activities at the Milton Community Hall, and people with any Covid-19 symptoms should not enter the hall.
Also – residents are reminded that if you are registering your children for extracurricular events and activities that there is a Child Bursary Program which will reimburse up to $75/child per year (April 1-March 31). If you are not sure if you have already received the bursary this year, check the list of recipients here. The application forms for the child bursary and the rebates for low flow toilets, low flow showerheads and HE washers are also online. https://miltonvalepark.com/for-residents/rebates-forms/
