February 18, 2024 – News and Events – Miltonvale Park & Milton Community Hall

Monday, Feb. 19 is a civic holiday so the Council Office will be closed; however, exercise, coffee, line dancing, acupuncture and singing are all going ahead!   Happy Islander Day to all!

 Coffee – Visit neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the Milton Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats. Please drop in, no pre-registration is required.

 Seniors Fitness Classes with Michele Gallant – at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays. They focus on balance and flexibility and are lots of fun! Cost $6. If you need more info, please email admin@miltonvalepark.com. Class is cancelled if schools (Bluefield family) are cancelled or delayed for weather-related reasons.

Yoga with Leone – Tuesdays – 9 a.m. Building Blocks of Yoga (mat) & 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga. $6 Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others at the hall. FRIDAY yoga classes take place on the 2nd floor at the hall mat class at 9 a.m. and yoga from a chair class at 10:30. The Friday classes are also being supported by Central Region Sport and Recreation Council. Suggested donations are $6 for Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others.  Class is cancelled if schools (Bluefield family) are cancelled or delayed for weather-related reasons.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meet at the Hall on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information contact Joyce at 902-368-2055.

 Weekly Wednesday Zumba Classes take place at 5:30. The cost for Miltonvale Park residents is $2/class and non-residents are $5. Space is limited, so please email  MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to get on the waiting list.

Lily Forsythe, a Registered Acupuncturist, will present small group Acupuncture Sessions on Mondays at 5:30, 5:45 and 6 p.m. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to sign up for a time slot to try acupuncture. Free for Miltonvale Park residents and $5 for others. MiltonMVPs.

Do you like to sing? The Milton Hall hosts singers on Monday evenings from 7-8 p.m. for a casual and fun singing group. Class is full. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to be on the waitlist.

More square dancing!  Learn to Square Dance -Tuesdays at 2 p.m. (usually)…. Class on Feb 20 is at 4 p.m. The group has been having so much fun, they are going to continue into spring. $5 a session. It is not too late to join! Register at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090.

The Milton Community Hall will be holding their annual general meeting, Tues., Feb. 20, storm date Feb 27 at 7 p.m. Adult residents of Miltonvale Park are all members of the non-profit, Milton Community Hall, Inc, and are invited to attend the meeting to learn about events of the past year and plans for 2024. REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! A community food box giveaway is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 22. Pick up between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall or delivery is available within Miltonvale Park. This is a project of the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park, with cooperation from the Milton Community Hall and local volunteers and funding from the Island Community Food Security Program, funded by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the Government of Canada. If you would like to volunteer Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon putting the boxes together or repacking or picking up fruits and veggies, please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090.  Thursday, Feb 29 – 7:30 p.m. -Miltonvale Park – Public Meeting on the 2024-25 municipal budget at the Milton Community Hall. Residents are invited to attend. Please RSVP to admin@miltonvalepark.com.

Feb 29 is the deadline to buy tickets for the next 50-50 twice-monthly draw. You can buy tickets at the hall-or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. $3 each or 2/$5. Congrats to Carol Craswell who won $113 on the Feb 15th draw.

NEW — Paper Quilling -The M.A.I Crafts will host two 2-hour Art Paper sessions at Milton Community Hall from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 13. After four hours of hands-on learning, you will take away not only the art paper skills, but also a piece of artwork in an 8 x 8 frame. Free for Miltonvale Park residents, $15 for others. The municipality is tentatively holding a Seniors Health Fair on the afternoon of Friday, March 8. (Tentative storm dates March 15). Watch for details. (Tentative date has changed!)

Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating (Pysanky) with Linda Weeks-Sunday March 10 at 1:30 p.m. Storm date March 24. FREE for Miltonvale Park residents, 55+, who also have priority registration. $10 for younger Miltonvale Park residents and $15 for others, if space is available.  Milton Hall Seasonal Seniors. Thursday March 14 is the final Community Meal funded through the Island Food Security Program. Registration is not open yet.

Book Club – We have several copies of Michelle Good’s book Five Little Indians and Blackouts to Bright Lights, Canadian War Bride Stories–If you would like to borrow one and join in on a discussion – please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090, and we will pick a time that works for the readers.

Community Garden – The Council will be establishing a Community Garden on land opposite the Milton Community Hall, which the family of the late Robert Hooper is generously letting the municipality use. If you are interested in being involved, please let the Council office know at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090. We have purchased a greenhouse, and are looking forward to the growing season! We are still working on details -and would love to get community members involved!

 Air Fryer – We have an air fryer for Miltonvale Park seniors to borrow to try out. Please contact MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com to borrow it for approximately a week, or call 902-566-3154.

The Municipality has 6 pairs of adult snow shoes available to lend out. Contact the Council Office if you would like to arrange to borrow them.

The North Milton WI is gathering period products for the PEI WI 28 Day Campaign throughout February to provide menstrual products to Island Food Banks.  Residents and visitors to the Milton Community Hall are invited to drop donations at the Milton Community Hall in February to have them included in this campaign. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=772968204861545&set=a.549767453848289

 RESIDENTS ONLY –Miltonvale Park has a $75 bursary program per child per year to participate in extracurricular sports, arts, cultural groups/activities and events. Deadline for this fiscal year is March 31, 2024. https://miltonvalepark.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/bursary-application2020.pdf

 PLEASE NOTE: For Miltonvale Park residents, if money or transportation is a barrier to any of the Milton Community Hall MVP (Most Valuable People) events, please let us know and we will do what we can to ensure that everyone can participate. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.

 MILTONVALE PARK RESIDENTS – Do you have a senior friend or neighbour who may not be connected to the internet and may be missing out on these emails? Please consider offering to print and deliver these notes to them, or make them aware they exist. Perhaps they have a relative who could be put on the email list to share information with them to ensure they are aware of local activities and opportunities. ALSO – we are aware that people with BellAliant and Sympatico emails may not be getting our recent emails -so if you have a friend, relative or neighbour, who might have one of these emails, can you please check in to see if they are in loop. This note is also posted on miltonvalepark.com and miltoncommunityhall.ca and on the hall and municipal Facebook pages.
